COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY IN BROMSGROVE, WORCESTERSHIRE

How would it feel to be truly heard?

Let's be honest, the thought of counselling and psychotherapy can be daunting. Talking about your innermost feelings to a complete stranger can be terrifying. What if talking is something you don't do very often? What if what's happened to you is really upsetting?

I won't tell you that it will be easy. Nor will I tell you that you'll feel better immediately (although you might, some people do). It won't always feel safe and comfortable - and how can it, when what you're doing, and what you're talking about is really hard?

But I will tell you that I will provide a confidential space, for YOU. It's in a safe and welcoming environment. We'll go at your pace, in your time. We'll explore your thoughts and feelings, and we'll try to unpick what's going on for you.

Together, we'll make sense of what's happening to you, and how you're feeling.

Together, we'll come up with ways in which you can move forwards, that feel right for YOU.

I won't judge you, no matter what issue you bring to counselling.

If counselling is hard, why do it?

Having the opportunity to be completely honest about how you feel, without being judged, is something that doesn't happen very much in real life.

Counselling can help you to feel less alone, knowing that I am truly listening to you. I want to know all about you, about how you see things, what you think about things, and how you feel about things. I will ask questions, often the questions that nobody else asks you. I will be honest with you throughout. I will explain any theory that is relevant to you, that will help you to get a better understanding of how and why you feel the way you do.

This process can lead to new thoughts and ideas. New perspectives, and new ways of looking at things, can help everything click into place. You will feel clearer about the issues you've come to talk about: why they've happened, how you really feel about them, and about what the best way forward might be.

You may feel a release from those difficult feelings and thoughts that you've been struggling with.

A better understanding of yourself and your relationships can help you to find healthier ways of coping, as well as improve your relationships.

Together, we'll work out what's going on. Together, we'll find ways to move forwards, in a way that makes sense to you.

What next?

If you would like to explore working with me, we can have a conversation via email, or on the phone, or we can arrange for an initial, 50 minute assessment session. Contact me, and we'll get the process started.

It is important that you feel comfortable with whoever you choose as your counsellor, and it is important for me to check whether counselling with me is appropriate. During this initial assessment session, we'll talk about what's brought you to counselling, and what you'd like to get out of counselling. It's likely that we'll also have time to start exploring your particular issues. If, after this session, you feel that I'm not the right counsellor for you, there's no obligation to continue counselling with me.

It is difficult to predict how many sessions you may need, although the number of sessions we have is up to you. I offer both short and long-term therapy, and appreciate many clients may be on a budget. We can arrange the frequency of sessions to suit this.
