ONLINE COUNSELLING

Counselling for you, convenient for you.

Online counselling gives you the opportunity to access counselling at a time and in a place convenient to you. It means that you don't have to travel to my office in Bromsgrove in order to have counselling with me, which can be helpful if you need to fit your counselling sessions in around your work schedule. Many of us are now used to attending meetings online, and online counselling is an increasingly popular, effective and convenient way to have therapy.

I take nationwide referrals in the UK for online counselling.

Online Counselling: How does it work?

Online counselling via video link is the most similar type of remote counselling to face-to-face sessions, as you can still see me and my reactions, and know that I am paying as much attention to you as I would face to face. It can be easier to feel connected to me as your counsellor in this way. Likewise, I can see you, your body language and your reactions, which helps me to gain a deeper understanding of what's happening for you.

As with face-to-face counselling, we will agree a time and a date for our session. Our session will take place just as a face-to-face session would. I usually use Zoom for online counselling, as this is a secure, encrypted platform commonly used for online counselling. Prior to the session, I will send you two things via email: an invoice which contains a payment link whereby you can pay for your session securely in advance of your session, and a zoom link for our meeting. At the time of your session, all you need to do is to click on the zoom link, and our session will then take place.

Practical Aspects of Online Counselling

It's important to think about the practical aspects of having counselling in your own home or workplace. Do you have a private space available where you won't be overheard? For some, particularly in the current situation, where your partner and/or family are likely to be in the house with you, this may not be possible.

If the focus of your counselling is likely to be your relationships with the people currently in your house with you, would you be able to talk about them safely and freely? If not, then it may be better to consider face-to-face counselling, or to attend your online sessions in a place where you can talk freely.

If you are in a situation where your internet/telephone usage is monitored by others: your work, or even your partner, please consider your safety and whether having online or telephone counselling may have an adverse effect on these relationships if they were to find out. The most important thing is that you remain safe.

I ask for payment in advance for online counselling sessions. I will send you an invoice via email in advance of your booked session, and payment must be made at least 24 hours in advance of your booked session.

It's also a good idea to consider what equipment you will use. You will need to be able to connect to the internet, and to have a reliable internet signal in order for your session to proceed smoothly. You will also need a computer/laptop or tablet with a front-facing camera. Many people also use earphones to improve sound quality and to give additional privacy.
